CIGNA
Changes for 2003
CIGNA Adds PPO to MariPlan 2003

CIGNA's certainly not standing still for 2003. While CIGNA is dropping its "Prime Option Plus" premium point of service plan, it's adding a full scale Preferred Provider Organization ("PPO") plan (Maricopa County's first since 1997). The PPO includes a broad provider network, and — unlike CIGNA's HMO and Prime Option POS plans — a referral from a PCP (primary care physician) is not needed to see a specialist.

CIGNA's HMO (staff model) and Prime Option (point of service) plans will be returning for 2003. PCP office visit co-payments will remain the same as last year ($10 for HMO and $15 for Prime Option). Co-pays for pre- and post-natal care will again be waived after the first visit. There is a $100 inpatient co-payment under the Prime Option plan for deliveries which is reimbursed by the County.

However, other co-payments will be changing: CIGNA's HMO co-pays will increase to $35 for Urgent Care visits  (was $20) and $75 for Emergency Room visits (was $50). HMO Specialist visit co-pays will stay the same at $10, but Prime Option Specialist co-pays will increase to $25 (was $15). Urgent Care co-pays will increase to $50 (was $20), and $100 for Emergency Room visits (was $50). Co-pays for MRIs and other scans have increased to $50.

Inpatient co-pays for CIGNA's Prime Option plan have decreased from $250 to $100. Maricopa County will continue to reimburse this amount to employees.

The Alternative Medicine plan (with a very low co-pay of $5.00 for 6 visits) will continue to include physical examinations and management, acupuncture, accupressure, and homeopathic consultation. CIGNA will continue to offer chiropractic for a $10 co-pay, and the number of visits has increased from 12/year to 20/year.

Avesis will continue to provide vision coverage for CIGNA plan members. UBH will provide behavioral health coverage for CIGNA members beginning January 1, 2003.

Please note: Effective January 1, 2003, prescription coverage for all CIGNA members will be provided by WHI. CIGNA will no longer provide prescription coverage for HMO ("staff model") members at CIGNA pharmacies.
